Specialties for refractories
We develop specialty products and offer complementary products that will further advance refractories technology and create value for our customers. These products include SioxX® specialties, EMSIL-DRY® and AloxX™-Spheres.
Boron carbide
Boron carbide (B4C) is used as an antioxidant during formulation of refractory products, while in high-performance ceramics and abrasives, it is used to impart wear-resistance. Boron carbide from Elkem is carefully sourced to ensure consistent quality, and our specialists are always available to advise on your application.
Fused silica
Fused silica is made by melting high-purity quartz sand at 1800–2000 °C, and then cooling it quickly to avoid crystallization. The result is a transparent amorphous silica, and our FS-99 series products are mainly used in refractory, ceramic & glass manufacturing, investment casting and other special applications.
Silica polymer additives
Perfectly spherical silica particles are sustainable additives for rubber, thermoplastic and coating formulations, providing improved viscosity control, processing, dispersion, flame retardancy and dynamic fatigue.
